SWP Verification Requirements

As the Person in Charge (PIC), you must only verify the SWP when you have confirmed all of the following requirements. This comprehensive checklist ensures all safety and operational requirements are met before work commences.

Access and Safety Requirements

a) Access and Egress Arrangements

  • Confirm the suitability of access and egress arrangements based on the work, tools and materials required
  • Ensure routes are safe and appropriate for the planned activities

b) First Aid Provisions

  • Confirm suitable first aid arrangements are in place (NR/L2/OHS/0110 – First Aid at Work)
  • Verify first aid coverage is adequate for the work duration and team size

c) Additional Control Measures

  • Confirm any additional control measures required such as:
    • Task lighting for work in low-light conditions
    • Specialist Personal Protective Equipment (ear defenders, etc.)
    • Environmental protection measures

d) Task Equipment

  • Confirm additional task equipment affecting the Safe System of Work (SSoW), including:
    • Trolleys and plant equipment
    • Specialized tools and machinery
    • Material handling equipment

Operational Requirements

e) Supporting Roles

  • Confirm any additional supporting roles required to establish and maintain the SSoW
  • Verify team composition and responsibilities are clearly defined

f) SSoW Method Review

  • Review the SSoW method that the Planner selected on the RT9909
  • Ensure the selected method is appropriate for the planned work

g) Protection and Warning Systems (if applicable)

  • Review the selection of protection and warning systems
  • Verify all necessary safety systems are included and appropriate

h) Error Identification

  • Advise the Planner of any errors or omissions found in the SWP
  • Document any issues that need to be addressed

Welfare Requirements

i) Gender-Specific Welfare Facilities

  • Confirm suitable gender-specific welfare facilities are provided (NR/L3/INI/CP0036 – The provision of welfare facilities)
  • Ensure facilities meet the needs of all team members

Verification Process

Once you have reviewed the SWP and confirmed all requirements above, you must:

  • Verify the SWP at least a shift in advance by completing form NR/L2/OHS/019/F01
  • Ensure sufficient time for any necessary corrections before work begins

When SWPs Are Not Correct

If the SWP is not correct:

  • The SWP shall be returned to the Planner for changes to be made or removed from use
  • Where changes are needed, these must be completed before verification can proceed
  • No work should commence until all issues are resolved and the SWP is properly verified
